The best time to visit Windhoek with a family is during the winter months from May to September. During this time, the days are sunny and mild (around 20-25°C), which is perfect for walking without the kids getting overheated. Summer (October to March) can be very hot, with temperatures often exceeding 30°C and occasional heavy afternoon thundershowers.
Currency & Money
Namibia uses the Namibian Dollar (NAD), which is pegged 1:1 to the South African Rand (ZAR). Both currencies are accepted everywhere in Windhoek. Credit and debit cards are widely used in malls, restaurants, and hotels. However, it is useful to keep some small cash for craft markets or tipping car guards (usually 5-10 NAD is sufficient).
Getting Around
Windhoek is not a city with an extensive public transport system. For families, the best way to get around is by using 'Dial-a-Cab' services or the LEFA app (the local version of Uber/Bolt).
