Best Time to Visit Switzerland
Switzerland is a year-round destination, but for families, the best time to visit is from late June to early September. During these months, all mountain cable cars are operational, the high-altitude playgrounds are snow-free, and the lakes are warm enough for swimming. If you prefer a winter wonderland, December to March offers world-class skiing, though it is more challenging with strollers.
Currency & Money
The local currency is the Swiss Franc (CHF). While Switzerland is part of the Schengen Area, it is not in the EU and does not use the Euro. Credit cards are accepted almost everywhere, including at mountain huts and small kiosks. Tipping is not required as a service charge is included in your bill, but rounding up the nearest 5-10 CHF for excellent service is common.
Getting Around Switzerland
The Swiss Travel System is the backbone of any epic journey here. For this 20-day trip, a 15-day or 22-day Swiss Travel Pass is essential. It provides unlimited travel on trains, buses, and boats, and offers a 50% discount on most high-altitude cable cars. Children under 6 travel free, and children aged 6-16 travel free with a Swiss Family Card when accompanied by a parent.
