3-Day Siem Reap Family Itinerary | Relaxed & Kid-Friendly

Siem Reap is the gateway to the ancient world, but it is also a surprisingly welcoming destination for families. While the temples of Angkor are the main draw, this itinerary balances historic exploration with engaging, hands-on activities that will keep children entertained without the exhaustion of a typical marathon tour.

Following our Family Travel Guides philosophy, we have prioritized stroller-accessible paths where possible and included plenty of shade and rest stops. With a relaxed pace and a focus on local culture, your family can experience the majesty of Cambodia without the stress of a rigid schedule.

Day 1: Siem Reap, Cambodia - The Great Ancient Discovery

09:00 AM

Angkor Wat Exploration

Start your journey at the most iconic monument in Cambodia. For families, we recommend focusing on the ground-level bas-reliefs which are easier to navigate. The main causeway is wide and stroller-accessible, allowing you to take in the scale of the temple without climbing the steep inner stairs.

💡 Flight Hack: Secure the best family seating and direct routes to Siem Reap by booking your regional connections early. AirAsia.
12:30 PM

Lunch at Temple Coffee n Bakery

Located near the river, this spacious cafe offers a mix of Western and Khmer dishes that are perfect for picky eaters. It’s air-conditioned and has comfortable seating, providing a necessary cool-down after a morning at the temples.

03:00 PM

Angkor Thom and Bayon Temple

Enter the ancient city of Angkor Thom through the South Gate. Kids will love the giant stone faces at Bayon Temple. Stick to the outer galleries to avoid narrow passages, making it a smoother experience for those with strollers or young toddlers.

07:00 PM

Phare, The Cambodian Circus

This is not your average circus; it's a high-energy performance involving theater, music, and jaw-dropping acrobatics. It tells Cambodian folk stories and is incredibly engaging for children. The venue is open-air but covered, with a very welcoming family atmosphere.

Day 2: Siem Reap, Cambodia - Hero Rats and Local Crafts

09:30 AM

APOPO HeroRats Visitor Center

A highlight for many children, this center showcases the incredible African Giant Pouched Rats that are trained to sniff out landmines. The tour is educational, safe, and ends with a chance to see the 'HeroRats' in action on a demonstration field.

12:30 PM

Kandal Village Lunch & Walk

This trendy neighborhood is full of boutiques and quiet cafes. It is much calmer than the central market area, making it a great spot for a relaxed family lunch and a short stroll to look at local handicrafts.

💡 Ticket Hack: Skip the long queues at the park entrance by pre-purchasing your multi-day temple passes online. Klook.
03:30 PM

Artisans Angkor

Visit this social enterprise where local artists are trained in traditional Khmer crafts. You can walk through the workshops and see stone carving, silk painting, and lacquering. It's a peaceful, sensory experience that is very accessible for families.

06:30 PM

Siem Reap Night Market

Wrap up the day at the night market. While it can be busy, the early evening hours are manageable. It’s a great place to pick up inexpensive souvenirs like elephant pants or hand-woven baskets while enjoying some local street snacks.

Day 3: Siem Reap, Cambodia - Water Life and Royal Gardens

09:00 AM

Kampong Phluk Floating Village

Take a boat trip to this stilted village on the Tonle Sap lake. Seeing houses on 10-meter high stilts is fascinating for kids. The boat ride is gentle, and the village provides a unique look at a different way of life in Cambodia.

01:00 PM

Lotus Farm by Samatoa

Located on the way back from the lake, this farm offers a look at how lotus fibers are turned into high-end fabric. It features a beautiful eco-friendly walkway through the lotus fields, which is great for family photos and very easy to navigate.

04:00 PM

Royal Independence Gardens

This public park in the center of town is perfect for letting kids run around. You can see the large fruit bats hanging from the trees and visit the nearby Preah Ang Chek Preah Ang Chorm shrine. It’s a favorite local spot for families in the late afternoon.

07:00 PM

Farewell Dinner at Marum

Celebrate your final night at Marum, a training restaurant that supports local youth. They have a lovely garden setting and a menu that features creative tapas-style dishes, making it easy to share multiple plates with the whole family.

💡 Where to Stay: For a family-friendly oasis with a beautiful pool and kid-centric amenities, book your stay at the Heritage Suites Hotel.

Best Time & Weather

The best time to visit Siem Reap is during the dry season from November to February, when temperatures are cooler and humidity is lower. This is ideal for family travel as it makes temple exploration much more comfortable. The shoulder months of March and April can be extremely hot, which may be difficult for young children, while the monsoon season (June to October) brings lush green landscapes but daily rain showers.

Currency & Money

Cambodia operates on a dual-currency system. While the official currency is the Cambodian Riel (KHR), US Dollars (USD) are widely accepted and often preferred in Siem Reap. Most prices are listed in USD. ATMs are plentiful in the city center and dispense USD. Tipping is not mandatory but highly appreciated—leaving a small amount for your tuk-tuk driver or restaurant server goes a long way in supporting the local economy.

Getting Around

The most iconic and convenient way to get around Siem Reap is by Remork (Cambodian Tuk-Tuk). They are affordable, provide a nice breeze, and most drivers are very helpful with folding up strollers. For longer trips or hotter days, you can easily use the 'PassApp' or 'Grab' apps to call a private air-conditioned car, which is often safer and more comfortable for infants and toddlers.
