Best Time to Visit Oman
The ideal time to visit Oman is between October and April, when the weather is pleasantly warm (25°C to 30°C) and the skies are clear. This is perfect for trekking in the mountains and enjoying the desert. If you wish to visit Salalah in the south, the 'Khareef' (monsoon) season from July to September transforms the region into a lush, green paradise, though it is humid and cloudy elsewhere in the country.
Currency & Money
The local currency is the Omani Rial (OMR). It is one of the highest-valued currencies in the world. Credit cards are widely accepted in luxury hotels, high-end restaurants, and malls. However, it is useful to carry some cash for smaller purchases in souqs or remote villages. Tipping is not mandatory but appreciated; 10% is standard in upscale restaurants if a service charge is not already included.
Getting Around Oman
For a luxury journey, the best way to get around is via private chauffeured 4x4 vehicles, which are essential for reaching the mountains and desert. For longer distances, such as between Muscat and Salalah or Khasab, domestic flights with Oman Air are highly recommended for speed and comfort. There are no passenger trains in Oman, but the road infrastructure is world-class and very well-maintained.
