Welcome to the East Coast, Singapore’s most laid-back and culturally rich district. This 6-day itinerary follows our Family Travel Guides philosophy, prioritizing a relaxed pace that respects nap times and little legs while ensuring you hit all the classic coastal highlights. Unlike the bustling downtown, the East Coast offers wide-open spaces, sea breezes, and flat, stroller-friendly paths perfect for a stress-free family getaway.
Throughout this journey, you will explore the vibrant Peranakan heritage of Katong, cycle along the scenic coastline of East Coast Park, and indulge in some of the most authentic local food the island has to offer. Pack your sunscreen and comfortable walking shoes; we are heading to the charming side of Singapore where the locals love to play.

Traditional Snacks at Kim Choo Kueh Chang
Stop by this heritage shop to try Nyonya Rice Dumplings. The staff are often happy to explain how the dumplings are wrapped, which is a fun visual experience for kids.
Dinner at 328 Katong Laksa
Savor a bowl of Singapore's most famous spicy noodle soup. For the kids, many nearby eateries offer non-spicy chicken rice or western-style cafes if their palates are more sensitive.

Best Time & Weather
Singapore is a year-round destination with a tropical climate, but for the East Coast, the best time to visit is from February to August during the dry season. This ensures you can make the most of the outdoor playgrounds and coastal paths. Be prepared for afternoon rain showers even in the dry season; luckily, the malls in the area provide excellent shelter and entertainment for kids when it pours.
Currency & Money
The local currency is the Singapore Dollar (SGD). While credit cards and contactless payments (like Apple Pay) are accepted almost everywhere, including most hawker stalls now, it is still wise to carry some cash for smaller traditional shops in Joo Chiat. Tipping is not expected in Singapore as a 10% service charge is usually included in restaurant bills.
Getting Around
The East Coast is best explored via a combination of walking, buses, and ride-hailing apps like Grab or Gojek. While the MRT (subway) serves the perimeter, the heart of Katong and the beach are most easily reached by bus or a short car ride. For families, GrabFamily is a great option as it provides cars equipped with child booster seats, ensuring safety and convenience for your little ones.
