Best Time to Visit Uruguay
The ideal time for this luxury route is during the Southern Hemisphere summer (December to March). January is the peak season when Punta del Este is at its most glamorous, but those seeking a quieter experience should consider the 'shoulder' months of November or March, when the weather is still warm but the crowds have thinned.
Currency & Money
Uruguay uses the Uruguayan Peso (UYU). While major credit cards are accepted in all luxury hotels and high-end restaurants, carrying some cash for small artisan shops in Colonia or Garzón is recommended. Tipping is standard at around 10% in restaurants, and it is usually not included in the bill.
Getting Around Uruguay
For a luxury traveler, the best way to navigate Uruguay is via private chauffeur-driven SUVs. While the country has an excellent premium bus network (EGA or COT Premiere), it does not have a functional passenger rail system. For quick travel between Montevideo and Punta del Este or Garzón, private helicopter charters are a popular high-end alternative.
