Best Time to Visit United States
The best time for this East Coast family route is during the Spring (April to June) or Autumn (September to October). During these periods, the weather is mild and comfortable for walking, and the foliage in Central Park and the National Mall is stunning. Summer can be very humid and crowded, while Winter offers festive holiday markets but can be quite cold for young children.
Currency & Money
The local currency is the United States Dollar (USD). Credit and debit cards are accepted almost everywhere, including for very small purchases. Tipping is a standard part of the culture; it is customary to leave 18-22% at restaurants and a few dollars for hotel staff or taxi drivers. Most ATMs are easily accessible but check for international fees from your home bank.
Getting Around United States
For this specific route, the Amtrak train system is the superior choice for families. It connects NYC, Philadelphia, and D.C. directly from city center to city center, avoiding the hassle of airport security. Within the cities, the New York City Subway and the D.C. Metro are efficient, though you should check for station elevator status. Ride-share apps like Uber and Lyft are also widely available and offer 'Car Seat' options in major cities.
