Best Time to Visit Uganda
The best time to visit Uganda is during the dry seasons from June to August and December to February. During these months, wildlife is easier to spot as animals gather around water sources, and the forest trails for gorilla and chimpanzee trekking are less slippery and more manageable. The 'short rains' in October and November can offer lush scenery and fewer crowds for those seeking ultimate privacy.
Currency & Money
The official currency is the Ugandan Shilling (UGX). While luxury lodges and high-end tour operators accept US Dollars (ensure bills are dated 2013 or newer) and major credit cards, it is advisable to carry some local currency for small purchases and tipping. Tipping is customary in the tourism industry; USD 10-20 per day for safari guides and USD 5-10 for lodge staff is a standard gesture of appreciation for excellent service.
Getting Around Uganda
For a luxury experience, domestic flights are the preferred method of travel. Companies like AeroLink Uganda operate scheduled and charter flights between Entebbe and the major national parks (Kasese, Kihihi, Pakuba). Once in the parks, travel is best conducted in private 4x4 safari vehicles with experienced driver-guides. While the 'Boda Boda' (motorcycle taxi) is common in cities like Kampala, it is not recommended for luxury travel between regions due to safety and comfort.
