Mirador Cafe at La Recoleta

Best Time & Weather
The best time to visit Sucre is during the dry season, from May to October. During these months, you’ll enjoy clear blue skies and mild daytime temperatures perfect for outdoor exploration. Nights can be chilly due to the altitude, so bring layers for the kids. The rainy season peaks in January and February, which can make the hilly streets slippery for strollers.
Currency & Money
The official currency is the Bolivian Boliviano (BOB). While some high-end hotels and restaurants in Sucre accept credit cards, cash is king in the markets and smaller cafes. ATMs are plentiful around Plaza 25 de Mayo. Tipping is not mandatory but rounding up the bill or leaving a 10% tip for good service in sit-down restaurants is appreciated.
Getting Around
The historic center of Sucre is best explored on foot, though some streets are steep. Taxis are incredibly affordable and widely available; always agree on the fare before starting the journey (usually around 10-15 BOB within the center). For trips to Parque Cretácico, the dedicated Dino-Bus is the most convenient and fun option for families.
