Best Time & Weather

The best time to visit Sharjah with a family is during the cooler months, from late October to early April. During this period, the weather is pleasant (20°C to 30°C), making outdoor parks and waterfront walks enjoyable. If you visit during the summer (June to September), temperatures can exceed 40°C, so you will want to focus entirely on indoor attractions like the Discovery Centre and the various museums which are all excellently air-conditioned.

Currency & Money

The local currency is the UAE Dirham (AED). The exchange rate is pegged to the US Dollar at approximately 3.67 AED to 1 USD. Credit and debit cards are widely accepted in almost all malls, museums, and restaurants. However, it’s useful to keep a small amount of cash for taxis or smaller shops in the traditional souqs. Tipping is not mandatory but 10-15% is common in restaurants for good service.

Getting Around

Taxis are the most convenient way for families to get around Sharjah; they are plentiful, metered, and relatively inexpensive. Ride-sharing apps like Careem and Uber are also widely available. While Sharjah has a public bus system, it is generally easier for those with strollers to stick to taxis. Most major attractions like Al Majaz and Al Qasba are designed with wide, paved walkways that are very stroller-friendly.
