Day 1: Puerto Varas, Chile - Lakefront & Heritage
Plaza de Armas
Start your trip at the town's central square. It is perfectly flat and paved, making it ideal for strollers. Let the kids look at the seasonal flowers while you admire the surrounding rose gardens.
Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus
This iconic red and white wooden church is a National Monument. It is a short walk from the plaza and offers a glimpse into the German-influenced history of the region.
Costanera (Lakefront Walk)
Enjoy a long, flat walk along the shores of Lake Llanquihue. The sidewalk is wide and stroller-friendly, offering uninterrupted views of the Osorno and Calbuco volcanoes.
Dinner at Cafe Mawen

Day 2: Puerto Varas, Chile - Nature & Waterfalls
Saltos del Petrohué
Located in Vicente Pérez Rosales National Park, these turquoise waterfalls feature a main walkway that is accessible for sturdy strollers. It is a short 45-minute drive from the city center.
Lake Todos los Santos
Just a few minutes from the falls, visit the pier at Petrohué. You can take a gentle boat ride on the 'Emerald Lake' or simply let the kids play on the volcanic sand beach.
Petrohué River Picnic Area

Day 3: Puerto Varas, Chile - German Colonial Roots
Drive to Frutillar Bajo

Kuchen Tasting
You cannot leave Frutillar without trying a traditional German 'Kuchen' (cake). Many local cafes along the waterfront offer high chairs and kid-sized portions.
Day 4: Puerto Varas, Chile - Volcanic Views
Osorno Volcano Base
Drive up to the ski center on the volcano. The road is paved and safe. While the chairlifts might be better for older kids, the base area offers incredible views and snow-play areas even in late spring.
Laguna Verde
On the way down, stop at this small, bright green lagoon. It’s a very short, flat walk from the parking area, making it very easy for little legs or parents carrying toddlers.
Ensenada Village
Stop in this quiet hamlet for a snack. It is a great place to see the volcano from a different angle and enjoy the slower pace of rural Chilean life.
Lakeside Playground
Return to Puerto Varas and spend the evening at the public playground on the Costanera while the sun sets over the water.
Day 5: Puerto Varas, Chile - Local Art & Parks
Parque Philippi
This park offers a forested escape right in the city. The main path leading to the cross at the top is a paved road, allowing for a stroller-friendly uphill walk with a rewarding view.
Museo Pablo Fierro
This quirky, colorful museum is located right on the waterfront. Children love the whimsical art and old artifacts, and the owner is often there to welcome families.
Artisan Market

Day 6: Puerto Varas, Chile - Relaxed Farewells

If you need some last-minute supplies or a quick lunch, this small mall is very convenient for families, offering clean changing rooms and easy access.
Departure Transfer
Head back to Puerto Montt for your flight, taking with you memories of the volcanoes and the fresh southern air.
Best Time & Weather
The best time to visit Puerto Varas for families is during the Chilean summer (December to March). During these months, the weather is mild and sunny, perfect for outdoor walks and boat rides. Spring (October and November) is also beautiful with blooming flowers, though you should expect occasional rain showers. Always pack layers, as the wind from the lake can be chilly even on sunny days.
Currency & Money
The local currency is the Chilean Peso (CLP). Credit cards are widely accepted in most restaurants, hotels, and larger shops in Puerto Varas. However, it is always a good idea to carry some cash for smaller artisan markets or tips. Getting Around
