Paros is the hidden gem of the Cyclades, offering a perfect balance between the cosmopolitan energy of Mykonos and the volcanic drama of Santorini, but with a much softer edge that is ideal for families. This 2-day itinerary is designed with our Family Travel Guides philosophy in mind: slow pacing, minimal stairs, and plenty of space for children to explore safely while parents soak in the Aegean sun.
Traveling with little ones can be daunting, but Paros makes it easy with its flat coastal paths and incredibly welcoming locals. We have curated a route that minimizes long drives and focuses on the northern and central hubs of Naoussa and Parikia, ensuring you spend less time in the car and more time creating memories at the water's edge.
Day 1: Naoussa - Harbors and Hidden Coves
Naoussa Old Port Exploration
Start your morning in the picturesque fishing village of Naoussa. The harbor area is largely flat and stroller-accessible, allowing you to walk right up to the colorful fishing boats. It is much quieter in the morning, making it the perfect time for family photos before the crowds arrive.
Lunch and Dip at Kolymbithres Beach
A short boat ride or a 10-minute drive from Naoussa brings you to Kolymbithres. Known for its unique granite rock formations, the water here is exceptionally shallow and crystal clear, acting like a natural swimming pool for toddlers and young children. There are several family-run tavernas nearby offering fresh grilled fish and Greek salads.
Moraitis Winery Visit
Located just on the edge of Naoussa town, this historic winery offers a beautiful, shaded courtyard. While parents enjoy a tasting of local Monemvasia grapes, the relaxed environment is welcoming to families, and the staff are happy to provide local juices for the children.
Sunset at Naoussa Venetian Castle
End your day with a walk along the pier to the ruins of the Venetian Castle. The path is wide enough for a stroller, though you'll want to hold hands near the water's edge. The golden hour light here is spectacular and provides a calm end to your first day.
Day 2: Parikia - History and Nature Walks
Panagia Ekatontapiliani
Visit one of the most important Byzantine monuments in Greece, located in the heart of Parikia. Known as the "Church of 100 Doors," the complex features a large, enclosed courtyard that is safe for kids to wander in while you admire the ancient architecture and cool stone interiors.
Parikia Old Town Wander
The winding alleys of Parikia’s Old Town are surprisingly easy to navigate with a lightweight stroller. Stick to the main pedestrian streets to find artisanal ice cream shops and shaded cafes. It’s a great spot to pick up locally made olive wood toys or Greek leather sandals.
Paros Park (Environmental & Cultural Park)
Located on the Akyros peninsula, this park offers well-marked walking trails that are manageable for older kids. For families with strollers, the area around Monastiri Beach at the entrance of the park provides easy access to the water and a beach bar with plenty of shade and amenities.
Waterfront Dinner in Parikia
Finish your trip with a relaxed dinner along the Parikia waterfront. This long stretch of road is closed to vehicles in the evening during the summer months, allowing children to move around more freely. Watch the ferries come and go as the sun sets over the Aegean.
Best Time & Weather
The best time to visit Paros with a family is during the shoulder seasons of late May to early June, or September. During these months, the weather is pleasantly warm (around 24°C to 27°C), the famous Meltemi winds are less intense, and the island is far less crowded than in July and August, making it much easier to navigate with strollers and secure tables at local restaurants.
Currency & Money
Paros uses the Euro (€). Credit cards are widely accepted in almost all restaurants, hotels, and shops. However, it is always a good idea to carry a small amount of cash for small beach kiosks or the local boat taxis. Tipping is not mandatory but rounding up the bill or leaving about 5-10% for good service is standard and appreciated in family tavernas.
Getting Around
While Paros has an excellent KTEL bus network, families will find renting a car the most convenient option for carrying strollers and beach gear. Most major rental agencies like Hertz and Sixt are located at the airport and the port of Parikia. Ensure you request car seats in advance. If you prefer not to drive, the water taxis from Naoussa to nearby beaches are an affordable and fun way for kids to travel.
