Best Time to Visit Panama
The best time to visit Panama is during the dry season, which runs from mid-December to mid-April. This period offers the most sunshine, making it ideal for beach days in Bocas del Toro and hiking in Boquete. However, Panama is a tropical country, and the 'green season' (May to November) features lush landscapes and lower prices, with rain typically falling in the late afternoon, allowing for plenty of morning activities.
Currency & Money
Panama uses the US Dollar as its official currency (though they call it the Balboa). You will receive US banknotes and a mix of US and Panamanian coins, which are identical in size and value. Credit cards are widely accepted in Panama City and major hotels, but you should carry cash for markets, water taxis in Bocas, and small fondas in the interior. Tipping of 10% is standard in sit-down restaurants.
Getting Around Panama
For intercity travel, domestic flights via Air Panama are the fastest way to reach Bocas del Toro. For the journey to El Valle and Boquete, renting a car or hiring a private driver is the most comfortable option for families. Within Panama City, Uber is very affordable, safe, and reliable. The 'Metro' in the city is also world-class and stroller-friendly for moving between major hubs.
