With its Mediterranean microclimate, blooming flower beds, and the backdrop of the snow-capped Alps, it offers a sophisticated yet incredibly welcoming environment for families. This itinerary is designed with a relaxed pace in mind, ensuring that parents can soak in the views while children enjoy the open spaces and engaging local sights.

As part of our Family Travel Guides series, we have focused on accessibility. Best Time & Weather

The best time to visit Montreux is between June and September when the weather is warm and all mountain attractions are fully accessible. July is particularly vibrant due to the Montreux Jazz Festival, though it can be crowded. For families, the 'shoulder' months of May and September offer pleasant temperatures around 18-22°C and fewer crowds. Winter (December) is also magical for the Montreux Noël, one of Europe's most beautiful Christmas markets.

Currency & Money

The local currency is the Swiss Franc (CHF). While Switzerland is not part of the EU, some shops may accept Euros but will give change in Francs at a lower rate. Credit cards are accepted almost everywhere, from supermarkets to mountain kiosks. Tipping is not mandatory in Switzerland as a service charge is included in your bill, but rounding up to the nearest 5 or 10 Francs for good service is appreciated.

Getting Around

Montreux is best explored on foot or via its excellent public transport. If you stay in a hotel, youth hostel, or holiday apartment in the region, you will receive the 'Montreux Riviera Card.' This card provides free travel on local VMCV buses and trains within the regional network. The lakeside promenade is the most scenic way to move between Montreux, Territet, and Chillon, and is fully accessible for strollers and wheelchairs.
