Best Time & Weather
The best time to visit Malapascua is during the dry season, which runs from December to June. For the clearest waters and best diving conditions, aim for March to May when the seas are at their calmest. While thresher sharks are present year-round, the 'Amihan' (northeast monsoon) from November to February can occasionally make boat crossings choppier, though the weather remains pleasant.
Currency & Money
The local currency is the Philippine Peso (PHP). While Malapascua is becoming more modern, it is an island; therefore, high-end resorts and dive shops accept major credit cards (Visa/Mastercard), but small local vendors and some restaurants are cash-only. There are very few ATMs on the island, and they are notoriously unreliable, so it is highly recommended to withdraw sufficient cash in Cebu before your departure.
Getting Around
Malapascua is a small, walkable island with no cars. The primary mode of transport is on foot or by 'habal-habal' (motorcycle taxi). For luxury travelers, most movement between the resort and dive sites is handled by private boat. Walking the length of the island takes about 30-45 minutes, making it easy to explore the hidden coves and villages at a leisurely pace.
