Day 3: Nature and Culture at Black Dragon Pool
Black Dragon Pool Park
This is arguably the most photographed spot in Lijiang, and for good reason. The park is very stroller-accessible and features wide paths around a stunning lake. The view of the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain reflected in the water is spectacular.
Dongba Culture Museum
Located right next to the park entrance, this museum is a manageable size for families. It offers a fascinating look at the Dongba pictographic script—the only living hieroglyphic language in the world—which children often find intriguing.

The best time to visit Lijiang is from late March to May or from September to November. During these shoulder seasons, the weather is mild and clear, offering the best views of the mountains without the summer rains or winter chill. Spring brings blooming flowers, while autumn offers crisp air and golden leaves. Always pack layers, as temperatures can drop significantly once the sun goes down due to the high altitude.
Currency & Money
The local currency is the Chinese Yuan (CNY). While Lijiang is a popular tourist destination, mobile payments via Alipay or WeChat Pay are the primary methods of transaction. It is highly recommended to set these up before arrival. While larger hotels and upscale restaurants accept international credit cards, smaller stalls and local eateries are cash or mobile-pay only. Getting Around
