The Itinerary
Day 1: Haifa, Israel - Gardens and German Heritage
Bahá'í Gardens (Lower Entrance)
Start your journey at the bottom of the world-famous Bahá'í Gardens. The lower plaza is flat and stroller-accessible, offering a stunning view of the 19 terraces climbing up Mount Carmel. It is a quiet, meditative space perfect for a morning family photo.
The German Colony (Ben Gurion Avenue)
Walk directly from the gardens into the German Colony. This historic district features wide sidewalks and beautifully restored 19th-century stone houses. It is a great place for kids to wander safely away from heavy traffic.
Lunch in Wadi Nisnas
A short walk away is the Wadi Nisnas neighborhood. Known for its coexistence and incredible street food, it is a sensory delight. Grab some fresh falafel or pita for a casual, kid-approved lunch while exploring the outdoor art installations in the alleys.
Haifa City Museum

Day 2: Haifa, Israel - Science and Mountaintop Views
Madatech Science Museum
Located in the historic Hadar neighborhood, Madatech is Israel's national museum of science. It is housed in the original Technion building and features dozens of hands-on exhibits and a dedicated preschool area that will keep kids busy for hours.
Gan HaEm (Mother's Park)
Head up to the Carmel Center to Gan HaEm. This large public park features a playground and plenty of shade. It is also home to the Haifa Educational Zoo, a small, manageable zoo perfect for younger children who might get overwhelmed by larger facilities.
Louis Promenade
Just a few minutes from Gan HaEm, this 400-meter walkway offers the absolute best views of the Haifa Bay. The path is paved and completely stroller-friendly, making it the perfect spot for an afternoon stroll as the sun begins to dip.
Dinner at Carmel Center
End the day at one of the many family-friendly cafes along Hanassi Avenue. The area is lively but safe, with many restaurants offering high chairs and kid-friendly menus like pasta and pizza.
Day 3: Haifa, Israel - Coastal Breezes and Cable Cars
Stella Maris Monastery
Take a bus or taxi to the top of the Stella Maris promontory. Visit the beautiful church, then enjoy the outdoor plaza. The view of the lighthouse and the sea is spectacular and there is plenty of room for kids to move around.
Haifa Cable Car (The 'Bubbles')
Ride the iconic clear-glass cable car from Stella Maris down to the Bat Galim beach. The ride is short but exciting for children, providing a bird's-eye view of the Mediterranean coastline.
Bat Galim Promenade
Once you reach the bottom, walk along the Bat Galim promenade. This area is flat, paved, and follows the water's edge. There are several playgrounds along the way and plenty of spots to stop for ice cream or a seafood lunch.
Clandestine Immigration and Naval Museum
Located near the end of the promenade, this museum features actual ships and submarines that kids can explore. Seeing the inside of a real naval vessel is often the highlight of the trip for school-aged children.
Best Time & Weather
The best time to visit Haifa with a family is during the spring (April to June) or autumn (September to November). During these months, the weather is pleasantly warm, ranging from 20°C to 26°C (68°F to 79°F), which is ideal for outdoor walking and stroller use. Summers can be quite humid and hot, while winters are mild but can be rainy, potentially limiting outdoor park activities.
Currency & Money
The local currency is the New Israeli Shekel (ILS). Credit cards are widely accepted in almost all restaurants, museums, and shops. However, it is useful to carry a small amount of cash for market stalls in Wadi Nisnas or for small tips. Tipping is customary in restaurants, usually around 10-15% for good service.
Getting Around
Haifa has an excellent public transport system. The Carmelit is a unique underground funicular that travels up and down the mountain—it's fast and fun for kids. For families with strollers, the Metronit (large articulated buses) is the best option as they have dedicated level-entry boarding. Taxis and ride-sharing apps like Gett are also readily available for more direct travel.
