Lunch at Box 32
Located inside the Public Market, this iconic spot is famous for its massive shrimp pastéis. It is a high-energy spot, but the staff are incredibly welcoming to children.
Praça XV de Novembro
A short walk from the market, this square features the legendary century-old Fig Tree. It provides ample shade for a relaxed stroll and a chance for kids to stretch their legs on flat ground.

Best Time & Weather
The best time to visit Florianopolis with a family is during the shoulder seasons: March to May or September to November. During these months, the weather is pleasantly warm (20°C to 26°C), and the island is much less crowded than the peak summer months of December and January. If you visit in winter (June-August), it is too cold for swimming but excellent for whale watching.
Currency & Money
The local currency is the Brazilian Real (BRL). Credit and debit cards are accepted almost everywhere, from high-end malls to small beach kiosks using 'Pix' or card machines. However, it is wise to carry a small amount of cash for tips or small artisanal markets. Tipping is usually included as a 10% optional service charge on restaurant bills.
Getting Around
For families, the most efficient way to get around is by car rental or using ride-sharing apps like Uber, which are very affordable in Florianopolis.
