Souvenir Shopping & Airport Transfer
Stop at Jack's of Fiji in Nadi town for last-minute gifts before a quick 10-minute drive to the airport for your evening departure.
Best Time to Visit Fiji
The best time to visit Fiji for families is during the dry season, which runs from May to October. During these months, the weather is sunny and mild with lower humidity, making it much more comfortable for children to be outdoors. The peak season falls in July and December/January (coinciding with Australian and NZ school holidays), so if you prefer a quieter experience, aim for the shoulder months of May or September.
Currency & Money
The local currency is the Fijian Dollar (FJD). While major resorts, restaurants, and tour operators accept credit cards (Visa and Mastercard), it is essential to carry some cash for local markets and smaller village visits. Tipping is not mandatory in Fiji but is appreciated for exceptional service. Many resorts also have a 'Staff Christmas Fund' box if you wish to contribute to the collective team.
Getting Around Fiji
For family travel, private transfers or car rentals are the most convenient way to move between regions like Nadi and Sigatoka. Public buses (the 'yellow buses') are affordable and frequent but may be less comfortable with strollers and luggage. For travel between islands, the South Sea Cruises catamarans are the standard, offering air-conditioned cabins and reliable schedules from Port Denarau.
