3-Day Family Guide to El Nido: Kid-Friendly & Relaxed

El Nido is often celebrated as a backpacker's paradise, but it is also an incredible destination for families seeking an epic journey at a slower pace. By focusing on accessible beaches and private experiences, you can navigate these limestone wonders even with little ones in tow.

This Family Travel Guide focuses on the Lio and Corong Corong areas, which offer better infrastructure than the rugged town center. We have designed this itinerary to be manageable, ensuring you spend less time in transit and more time building sandcastles in the world's most beautiful lagoons.

Day 1: El Nido, Philippines - Coastal Comfort & Sunsets

09:30 AM

Breakfast in El Nido Town

Start your morning at a local cafe like Artcafe. It is one of the oldest establishments in town and offers a wide variety of kid-friendly breakfast options like fresh fruit pancakes and homemade bread. It is a great place to pick up reef-safe sunscreen and waterproof bags for the days ahead.

💡 Flight Hack: To minimize travel fatigue with kids, book a direct flight from Manila or Cebu directly into Lio Airport. AirSwift.
11:30 AM

Corong Corong Beach Exploration

Take a short tricycle ride to Corong Corong Beach. Unlike the main town beach, Corong Corong is much quieter and offers shallow waters during low tide, making it safer for toddlers to splash around. There are several beachfront restaurants where you can base yourselves for the afternoon.

01:30 PM

Lunch at Bella Vita El Nido

Enjoy a relaxed lunch at Bella Vita. This beachfront restaurant is famous for its authentic Italian pizzas, which are always a hit with children. The open-air seating allows kids to play in the sand right in front of your table while you wait for your meal.

05:30 PM

Sunset at Las Cabañas Beach

Head to Las Cabañas (Maremegmeg Beach). This is one of the few spots in El Nido with a paved walkway part of the way, making it somewhat accessible. The sunset views here are iconic, and the atmosphere is lively yet family-appropriate during the early evening hours.

Day 2: El Nido, Philippines - Private Island Adventure

09:00 AM

Private Boat Tour Departure

Instead of a shared boat, hire a private bangka for the day. This allows you to set your own schedule, skip the crowded spots, and return early if the kids get tired. Most private tours depart from the El Nido Main Beach or Corong Corong.

10:30 AM

Big Lagoon Kayaking

Visit the Big Lagoon early to avoid the midday heat. For families, kayaking is the best way to explore. You can fit a small child between two adults in a kayak to glide through the calm, emerald waters surrounded by towering limestone cliffs.

💡 Ticket Hack: Pre-book your lagoons entry permits and private boat tour online to ensure your preferred departure time. Klook.
01:00 PM

Picnic Lunch on Entalula Island

Ask your boat crew to set up lunch on Entalula Island. It features a stunning white sand beach and shaded areas under coconut trees. The crew typically prepares a fresh feast of grilled fish, chicken, and local fruits that kids will love.

04:00 PM

Gelato Treat in Town

After returning to the mainland, head to Gusto Gelato in the town center. It is a local favorite offering authentic Italian gelato with tropical flavors like mango and coconut, providing the perfect cool-down after a day at sea.

Day 3: El Nido, Philippines - Paved Paths & Relaxed Play

10:00 AM

Lio Estate Beach Day

Spend your final day at Lio Estate. This is the most family-friendly development in El Nido, featuring wide, paved eco-trails that are completely stroller-accessible. The beach is sprawling, clean, and equipped with proper restrooms and changing facilities.

12:30 PM

Lunch at Lio Tourism Estate

The Lio Estate has a row of excellent restaurants. Try Poda for healthy bowls or Globy’s for variety. The area is pedestrian-only, so children can run around safely while you enjoy a view of the Bacuit Bay.

💡 Where to Stay: For the ultimate family convenience, stay at a resort within the Lio Estate to have everything within walking distance. Seda Lio.
03:00 PM

Sandcastle Building & Souvenirs

The sand at Lio Beach is perfect for building sandcastles. Spend a lazy afternoon enjoying the calm waves. Before leaving, visit the Kalye Artisano nearby, a retail hub featuring local Filipino crafts and ethical souvenirs.

06:30 PM

Farewell Dinner at Sava Beach Bar

Finish your trip with an early dinner at Sava. While it becomes a lounge later at night, its early evening vibe is family-friendly with comfortable bean bags on the sand, allowing you to enjoy the ocean breeze one last time.

Best Time & Weather

The best time to visit El Nido is during the dry season, from November to May. This period offers the calmest seas and clearest skies, which is essential for boat safety when traveling with children. March and April are the warmest months, while December and January provide slightly cooler, pleasant temperatures. Avoid the typhoon season from July to September, as boat tours are frequently cancelled during this time.

Currency & Money

The local currency is the Philippine Peso (PHP). While larger resorts and restaurants in Lio Estate and town accept credit cards, El Nido remains a cash-heavy destination. There are several BPI and BDO ATMs in the town center, but they occasionally run out of cash or experience connectivity issues. It is highly recommended to withdraw enough cash in Manila or Cebu before arriving. Tipping is not mandatory but appreciated; 5-10% is standard for good service.

Getting Around

The most common way to get around is by tricycle, which can fit a family of three or four. For longer distances, such as moving between the town center and Lio Estate, you can book a private air-conditioned van. If you are staying at Lio Estate, they provide a complimentary shuttle service for guests. While the town center is walkable, it is crowded and not very stroller-friendly, so a baby carrier is often more practical than a stroller for exploring the narrow streets.
