It serves as a perfect introduction for those embarking on epic 14-day journeys across the region.
The city is designed with comfort in mind, offering world-class infrastructure and a safe environment for children. From the air-conditioned trams of Msheireb to the sprawling green lawns of MIA Park, every stop on this 3-day guide ensures that your family stays comfortable while experiencing the best of Qatari hospitality.
Day 1: Doha, Qatar - The Heart of Old and New Doha
Msheireb Downtown Tram Ride
Start your morning in the world's first sustainable downtown regeneration project. This district is incredibly stroller-friendly. Take the kids for a ride on the electric Msheireb Tram, which loops around the district for free, offering a fun and cool way to see the modern architecture.
Lunch at Barahat Msheireb
Enjoy lunch at the Barahat Msheireb square, the largest open-air covered square in the Middle East. The area features innovative retractable roofs and floor cooling technology, making it a comfortable spot for a family meal even on warmer days.
Souq Waqif Cultural Exploration
Cross over to the historic Souq Waqif. Wander through the vibrant alleys filled with spices, textiles, and traditional crafts. The main walkways are flat and accessible, perfect for a slow-paced stroll. Don't miss the Falcon Hospital nearby, where children can see these majestic birds up close.
Evening at the Souq Animal Zone
Near the edge of the Souq, visit the camel pen and the horse stables of the Emiri Diwan. Kids will love seeing the Arabian horses and camels. Finish the day with a traditional dinner at one of the many restaurants offering outdoor seating for great people-watching.
Day 2: Doha, Qatar - Culture and Coastal Charm
Katara Cultural Village
Spend your morning at Katara, a massive cultural hub with beautiful mosaics and a stunning amphitheater. The village is pedestrian-heavy with wide paths. Kids can enjoy the spacious play areas or a walk along the Katara Beach (be mindful of the modest dress code in public areas).
Lunch at Tasty Street
Located within Katara, this area offers a variety of easy-to-eat options and food trucks that are perfect for a quick, family-friendly lunch before heading to your next stop.
The Pearl-Qatar Boardwalk
Take a short drive to The Pearl-Qatar, a man-made island. Head to Porto Arabia and walk along the 3.5-kilometer waterfront boardwalk. It is lined with shops and cafes, and the marina views with yachts are always a hit with kids.
Sunset at Qanat Quartier
End your day in the Venice-inspired Qanat Quartier. With its colorful buildings and Rialto-style bridge, it's a very photogenic and calm area for an evening walk. There are plenty of kid-friendly Italian restaurants here for a relaxing dinner.
Day 3: Doha, Qatar - Parks and Playtime
Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) Park
Start at the MIA Park rather than the museum itself. The park features a large, shaded playground divided by age groups, ensuring toddlers and older kids can play safely. The paved paths along the water offer one of the best views of the Doha skyline.
Picnic or Cafe Lunch at MIA
The MIA Park Cafe offers casual seating with incredible views. Alternatively, the museum’s internal cafe is a quiet, air-conditioned spot to refuel. The museum itself is stroller-friendly with elevators to all levels if you wish to see the artifacts.
Aspire Park Relaxation
Head to the Aspire Zone to visit Aspire Park, the largest green space in the city. It features beautiful fountains, ducks to watch, and a large hill for children to run on. The paths are perfectly flat for strollers and scooters.
Villaggio Mall Gondola Ride
Located right next to Aspire Park, Villaggio Mall is an indoor Venetian-themed shopping center. Take the kids for a gondola ride on the indoor canal or visit Gondolania, an indoor theme park with a Ferris wheel and carousel, providing a perfect climate-controlled end to the trip.
Best Time & Weather
The best time to visit Doha for families is between November and March. During these months, the weather is pleasantly cool, ranging from 18°C to 25°C (64°F to 77°F), making it ideal for outdoor parks and strolls. Summer months (June to September) are extremely hot and humid, often exceeding 40°C, which limits activities to indoor malls and museums.
Currency & Money
The local currency is the Qatari Rial (QAR). Credit and debit cards are widely accepted in almost all establishments, including taxis and markets. However, carrying a small amount of cash is useful for small purchases at Souq Waqif. Tipping is not mandatory but a 10% tip at restaurants is common for good service.
Getting Around
The Doha Metro is the most efficient, clean, and stroller-friendly way to get around, with elevators at every station. For areas not covered by the metro, the Karwa taxi app or Uber are reliable and affordable. If you prefer more flexibility, renting a car is an option, as Doha has excellent road infrastructure and plenty of parking near major family attractions.
