This 12-day itinerary follows the 'Classic Route' from the capital of Zagreb down to the 'Pearl of the Adriatic,' Dubrovnik, but with a specific focus on slow pacing and kid-friendly logistics.
We have prioritized intercity travel via comfortable buses or private transfers to ensure that even with strollers and luggage, your journey remains stress-free. From the musical steps of Zadar to the cinematic walls of Dubrovnik, every stop is chosen for its accessibility and ability to engage travelers of all ages.
The Itinerary
Day 1: Zagreb, Croatia - Arrival and Green Spaces

Best Time to Visit Croatia
The best time for a family trip to Croatia is during the shoulder seasons of May-June or September. During these months, the weather is warm enough for swimming but not the sweltering heat of July and August. Additionally, the crowds are significantly smaller, making it much easier to navigate strollers through the narrow streets of Old Towns like Split and Dubrovnik.
Currency & Money
Croatia adopted the Euro (€) on January 1, 2023. Credit cards are widely accepted in hotels, larger restaurants, and supermarkets. However, it is essential to carry some cash for smaller bakeries, local markets, and some ferry kiosks. Tipping is appreciated but not mandatory; rounding up the bill or leaving 10% for good service is standard practice.
Getting Around Croatia
For intercity travel, Croatia has an excellent bus network (Arriva or FlixBus) and a reliable ferry system (Jadrolinija). For families, the fast catamarans between Split and Dubrovnik are much more comfortable than buses. Trains are limited and generally slower than buses. Within cities, Uber and local taxis are readily available and often have car seat options if requested in advance.
