Best Time to Visit Brunei

However, Brunei is a year-round destination with tropical weather; just be prepared for short, heavy afternoon bursts of rain if you visit during the wetter months of October to December.

Currency & Money

Brunei uses the Brunei Dollar (BND), which is pegged 1:1 to the Singapore Dollar (SGD). In fact, Singaporean notes are widely accepted in Brunei and vice versa. While credit cards are accepted in malls and larger hotels, cash is absolutely essential for the budget traveler. You will need small notes for buses (BND 1), water taxis, and the night markets where most of your meals will cost between BND 1 and BND 5.

Getting Around Brunei

Getting around Brunei on a budget is best done via the public bus system in Bandar Seri Begawan. The buses are color-coded and charge a flat rate of BND 1 per journey. For inter-district travel, larger buses run from BSB to Tutong and Seria for a few dollars. Within the capital, water taxis are the standard way to reach Kampong Ayer. For areas not covered by buses, the 'Dart' app is the local version of Grab/Uber and is much cheaper than traditional taxis.
