Best Time to Visit Brunei
The best time to visit Brunei is between February and April when the weather is generally drier and cooler. However, Brunei is a year-round destination. Rain is common throughout the year due to its tropical location, but it usually comes in short, heavy bursts in the late afternoon. If you want to experience local culture at its peak, consider visiting during Hari Raya Aidilfitri (the end of Ramadan), when the Sultan opens his palace, the Istana Nurul Iman, to the public for three days.
Currency & Money
The local currency is the Brunei Dollar (BND), which is pegged 1:1 to the Singapore Dollar (SGD). In fact, Singaporean notes are widely accepted in Brunei. Credit cards are accepted in major hotels, malls, and restaurants, but it's essential to carry cash for water taxis, markets, and smaller cafes. Tipping is not mandatory but appreciated for exceptional service in restaurants and hotels.
Getting Around Brunei
For families, the most comfortable way to get around is by renting a car or using the 'Dart' app (Brunei's version of Grab/Uber). Public buses (Franchise buses) are available and very affordable but can be slow and may not follow a strict schedule. To reach Temburong, the Sultan Haji Omar Ali Saifuddien Bridge has made travel much easier and more comfortable than the old speedboat route, especially for those traveling with strollers and young children.
