Best Time to Visit Brunei

Brunei is a year-round destination with a tropical climate. However, the best time to visit is during the dry season from January to May, when rainfall is at its lowest. This makes outdoor activities and boat trips much more predictable. Avoid the peak of the monsoon season in November and December if you plan on spending significant time in the Temburong jungle. Note that during the month of Ramadan, many eateries may be closed during the day, so check dates before booking.

Currency & Money

The local currency is the Brunei Dollar (BND), which is pegged at 1:1 with the Singapore Dollar (SGD). Singapore Dollars are widely accepted in Brunei. Credit cards are accepted in major hotels and shopping malls, but it is essential to carry cash for water taxis, night markets, and local shops in Tutong and Temburong. Tipping is not mandatory but appreciated for exceptional service in restaurants and for private tour guides.

Getting Around Brunei

For families, the most efficient way to get around is by renting a car or using the 'Dart' ride-hailing app, which is Brunei's version of Uber/Grab. Public buses (Purple Buses) exist but are not always convenient with strollers or on a tight schedule. Intercity travel between BSB, Tutong, and Kuala Belait is best done via the excellent highway network. To reach Temburong, the Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Bridge has made travel by car much easier and faster than the traditional speedboat routes.
