Day 1: Aswan, Egypt - Nile Islands and Riverside Charm

Kitchener’s Island (Aswan Botanical Garden)

Philae Temple Complex

Aswan High Dam

The Unfinished Obelisk
Located in a granite quarry, this site allows kids to see how ancient Egyptians carved their massive monuments. The site is open-air and involves some walking on uneven ground, so baby carriers are recommended over strollers here.
Aswan Corniche Stroll

Best Time & Weather
The best time to visit Aswan is from October to April. During these months, the weather is pleasantly warm during the day and cool at night. Avoid the summer months (June to August) at all costs if traveling with children, as temperatures can frequently exceed 40°C (104°F), making outdoor sightseeing dangerous and uncomfortable.
Currency & Money
The local currency is the Egyptian Pound (EGP). While major hotels and upscale restaurants in Aswan accept credit cards, cash is essential for market shopping, boat rides, and tipping (baksheesh). Tipping is a deeply ingrained part of the culture; keep small bills handy for bathroom attendants, boat captains, and guides.
Getting Around
In Aswan, the river is your highway. Feluccas and motorboats are the primary way to reach the islands and Philae Temple. On land, white taxis are plentiful—always agree on a price before getting in. For families, the most comfortable option is often hiring a private air-conditioned van for the day to move between the High Dam, the Obelisk, and the Museum.
