Best Time to Visit Maldives
The best time for a luxury escape to the Maldives is during the dry season, from November to April. During these months, you can expect clear blue skies, calm seas, and excellent visibility for diving. The peak months of December and January offer the most sunshine but also the highest resort rates. If you are specifically visiting for Manta Rays in Baa Atoll, the wet season (May to October) is actually better for sightings at Hanifaru Bay.
Currency & Money
The local currency is the Maldivian Rufiyaa (MVR), but US Dollars are widely accepted as the primary currency in all luxury resorts and for most excursions. Major credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, Amex) are accepted everywhere. While tipping is not mandatory as a 10% service charge is almost always added to bills, it is customary to tip your villa host (Majordomo) or boat crew for exceptional service.
Getting Around Maldives
Inter-atoll travel is exclusively done via seaplane, speedboat, or domestic flights. For a luxury itinerary, Trans Maldivian Airways (TMA) provides the most extensive seaplane network. Note that seaplanes only fly during daylight hours. For travel within Male' or to nearby resorts, private speedboats are the standard. Luxury resorts typically handle all your logistics from the moment you clear customs at Velana International Airport.
