The Itinerary
Day 1: Osh, Kyrgyzstan - Ancient Peaks and Bazaars
Sulayman-Too Sacred Mountain
Start your journey at the city's crowning jewel, a UNESCO World Heritage site. This sacred limestone crag rises abruptly from the Fergana Valley. It costs less than a dollar to hike the well-maintained trails to the top for a 360-degree view of the city and the distant Pamir Mountains.
Osh Bazaar (Jayma Bazaar)
Descend from the mountain and walk toward one of the largest outdoor markets in Central Asia. For just a couple of dollars, you can grab fresh lepeshka (bread) and hot samsas from a clay oven for an authentic backpacker lunch. Wander the rows of colorful spices and traditional Kyrgyz felt hats.
National Historical and Archaeological Museum
Located right inside a massive natural cave on the side of Sulayman-Too, this museum is a marvel of Soviet-era architecture. It houses thousands of artifacts detailing the region's 3,000-year history. The entry fee is negligible, making it a perfect budget-friendly cultural stop.
Lenin Statue and Central Square
Head to the city center to see one of the largest remaining statues of Lenin in Central Asia. The surrounding square is a great spot for people-watching as locals gather in the evening. It’s a completely free way to soak in the post-Soviet atmosphere of the city.

Three-Story Yurt & Manas Statue
Check out the World of Motherhood museum, housed inside a unique three-story yurt, and the nearby massive statue of the legendary hero Manas. These landmarks are iconic symbols of Kyrgyz national identity and provide great photo opportunities for free.
South Panorama Viewpoint
For your final evening, take a cheap marshrutka or a short hike to the southern hills of the city. From here, you can watch the sun set over the Sulayman-Too mountain as the city lights begin to twinkle. It’s the perfect, free way to say goodbye to Osh.
Best Time & Weather
The best time to visit Osh is during the shoulder seasons of May to June and September to October. During these months, the weather is pleasantly warm (around 20-25°C), making it ideal for walking and hiking Sulayman-Too. July and August can be scorching, with temperatures often exceeding 35°C, while winters are cold and dusty, though the city remains functional year-round.
Currency & Money
The local currency is the Kyrgyz Som (KGS). While some hotels and larger restaurants in the capital might take cards, Osh is very much a cash-based society. You will find plenty of ATMs and exchange offices near the Osh Bazaar and along Kurmanjan Datka Street. Tipping is not strictly required but rounding up the bill at small cafes is appreciated by the hardworking staff.
Getting Around
Getting around Osh is incredibly cheap if you use the 'Marshrutkas' (minibuses). They cost only about 10-15 KGS per ride (roughly 15 cents) and cover the entire city. For a more direct route, use the Yandex Go app for affordable and reliable taxis with fixed pricing. Most of the city center and the attractions around Sulayman-Too are easily navigable on foot if you don't mind the dust.
