Best Time to Visit Middle East
The ideal window for this northern Middle East route is from late March to early May. April, in particular, offers a 'Goldilocks' climate: the harsh winter snows have melted from the Turkish and Lebanese peaks, yet the scorching summer heat of the Jordanian desert has not yet arrived. This is the only time of year you will see the Lebanon mountains and northern Jordan covered in a lush carpet of green and wildflowers. Temperatures typically range from 15°C to 25°C (59°F to 77°F), making it perfect for the extensive walking and hiking involved in this itinerary.
Visas & Border Crossings
For Turkey, most nationalities can easily obtain an e-Visa online before arrival. Lebanon offers visas-on-arrival for many Western countries, but it is critical to ensure your passport does not contain any evidence of travel to Israel, as this will result in denied entry. Jordan has a streamlined process through the 'Jordan Pass,' which includes the cost of a tourist visa if you stay more than three nights and provides entry to major sites like Petra. While these countries share land borders, current regional geopolitics make flying the most reliable and family-friendly method for crossing between Turkey, Lebanon, and Jordan.
Getting Around Middle East
The most efficient way to travel between these three countries is via regional airlines like Turkish Airlines, Royal Jordanian, and Middle East Airlines (MEA), which offer frequent, short flights (usually 1-2 hours). Within Turkey, domestic flights and rental cars are excellent for covering long distances. In Lebanon, the country is small enough that you can use Beirut as a base and hire a private driver for day trips. In Jordan, renting a car is highly recommended for families, as the roads are well-maintained and it offers the flexibility to stop at scenic viewpoints along the King’s Highway.
