This 11-day itinerary is designed for the discerning traveler who seeks to explore the 'Manhattan of the Desert' and the endemic wonders of Socotra while maintaining a high standard of comfort through private transfers and the country's most prestigious accommodations.
From the gingerbread houses of Sana'a to the turquoise lagoons of the Indian Ocean, you will traverse the country's most iconic sites. Best Time to Visit Yemen
The best time to visit Yemen depends on your destination. For the mainland and Socotra, the window between October and April is ideal. During these months, the weather is pleasantly warm, and you avoid the intense summer heat. Crucially for Socotra, this period avoids the monsoon season (June to September), during which the island is virtually inaccessible by boat and flights are frequently canceled due to high winds.
Currency & Money
The official currency is the Yemeni Rial (YER). However, due to the economic situation, the exchange rate varies significantly between the north and south. It is essential to carry crisp, new US Dollar bills (post-2013) as credit cards are not accepted anywhere outside of the very few high-end hotels in Aden or Sana'a. Tipping is customary for guides, drivers, and hospitality staff, and is best done in local currency or small USD bills.
Getting Around Yemen
Intercity travel in Yemen is primarily conducted via domestic flights operated by Yemenia Airways, connecting Sana'a, Aden, Seiyun, and Socotra. For ground transport, hiring a private 4x4 vehicle with a driver and an authorized guide is mandatory for both logistics and safety. Public transport like buses is not recommended for international tourists seeking a luxury or high-end experience.
