Best Time to Visit Middle East
The best time to visit the Eastern Middle East is between November and March. January is the absolute peak for the 'Northern/Scenic' route, as temperatures in the mountains can dip to a refreshing 10°C at night while coastal areas remain a pleasant 22°C-25°C. This is the only time of year when hiking and outdoor activities are comfortable throughout the day. While it is technically the 'cool season,' it is the peak tourist season, so early booking for luxury resorts is essential.
Visas & Border Crossings
Oman and the UAE share a relatively friendly border for tourists. Most Western nationalities can obtain an e-visa for Oman or a visa-on-arrival for the UAE. When traveling from Khasab (Oman) to Dubai (UAE) by road, ensure you have your passport and exit/entry fees ready (approx. 35 AED for UAE exit). For the Khasab-Dubai route, you will pass through the Tibat border; ensure your rental car or private transport has the necessary insurance to cross international borders.
Getting Around Middle East
For a luxury itinerary, private chauffeurs and domestic flights are the preferred methods of transit. Oman Air operates frequent and scenic domestic flights between Muscat and Khasab. For cross-border travel between Oman and the UAE, luxury SUVs are recommended due to the mountainous terrain. Within the cities of Dubai and Abu Dhabi, high-end ride-sharing services like Careem (Luxury/Select) or private hotel cars provide the most comfortable and reliable way to navigate.
